29: PELICAN SARRACANIA
Sponsor: Bayside Academy
Artist: Bayside Academy Upper School Art Department

About the Pelican: The students of Bayside Academy under the direction of art teachers Vickki Turner Finch and Juli Day chose to depict images of flora and fauna found in the Splinter Hill Baldwin County Bog as a visual reminder of the special coastal environment we are privileged to inhabit. Bog motifs such as long leaf pine, white pitcher plants, pot-of-gold-lilies, a timber rattler, gopher tortoise, tree frog, fire and water are included in the design.

About The Artist: Bayside Academy Upper School Fine Arts Faculty are Juli Day and Vikki Turner Finch. Vikki is the owner of Chesser Gallery and a Dirty Girl founder (a woman's clay artist association). Juli, also a Dirty Girl member, sits on several Art Education Boards. Both are active in the arts community in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Upper School Students at Bayside Academy participate in many exhibits and competitions on the local, state and national levels. Their works are shown throughout the communities of Mobile and Baldwin Counties, at state conferences and other locations. Local venues for their works include Mobile Museum of Art, Eastern Shore Art Center, Barnes and Noble, Chesser Gallery, Thomas Hospital, and Colonial Bel Air Mall.
