31: VEGE PELICAN
Sponsor: Judy Niemeyer Team at RE/MAX by the Bay
Artist: Allison Norris Ashurst

About the Pelican: Allison's BFA thesis series was about food's rich variety of colors and textures and its cultural significance. In south Alabama, there are many markets scattered throughout. On busy highways and country backroads, one can find a plethora of delicious ripe fruits and vegetables. In Vege Pelican, Allison wanted to capture the essence of southern produce. The pelican is fittingly located next to the stand of Fairhope's Tomato Lady.

About The Artist: Allison Norris Ashurst received her BFA in painting from Birmingham-Southern College in 2002, and a Masters in Art Education from University of Alabama in Birmingham. She was gallery director for a Montgomery-based art gallery in Spanish Fort, Alabama, then opened her own gallery in Fairhope in March 2006. In 2007, Allison decided to devote herself full time to her own paintings.
