About the Pelican: Growing up in Pensacola, I loved to watch the Pelicans when we visited the Gulf. Pelicans were rare in those days, but because of those who are dedicated to the preservation of wildlife, pelicans have come back strong, for us all to enjoy and appreciate. Being in a small community, like Fairhope, provides artists an opportunity to participate in art projects in a big way. Taking part in the Art Takes Flight project is such an honor for me, not only as an aspiring artist, but as a member of this great community. Pelican Palette represents the beautiful town of Fairhope, flowers on every corner, artists painting on corners in downtown, visitors taking pictures of our beautiful town and those who are inspired to write because of our wonderful treasure in the south.
About The Artist: Nancy, a Pensacola native, retired from a demanding career at Hewlett Packard in California, and relocated to the area in 1998. She works part time as a recruiter for a local human resource company. Nancy shows her work and volunteers at the local art centers. She participated in painting the children's room at the Daphne Public Library, as a community project. Nancy enjoys a variety of mediums, including pen & ink, colored pencil, acrylic, pastel and watercolor. Discovering pen and ink as a medium has allowed her to express her passion for details. She currently enjoys teaching pen & ink and colored pencil classes locally. Sharing what she knows with adults and young students alike has given her new insight into the amazing abilities of our future artists!
