51: NEFERTITI
Sponsor: Allan O. Rowe
Artist: Nancy Rowe

About the Pelican: A former art teacher with special appreciation for Egyptian art, Nancy was inspired to create her pelican with an Egyptian motif. Queen Nefertiti, the wife of Akhentaten, was also a powerful and legendary beauty of her time and her cartouch, the Wedget which contains the eyes of the god Horus, believed to enable the deceased to communicate back to the world, is included.

About The Artist: Nancy Rowe moved to Fairhope three years ago and immediately became involved in the Eastern Shore Art Center. A former art teacher, Nancy has exhibited in New York, Connecticut and Indiana. She works in watercolor, oil and colored pencil and is comfortable with most subject matter and media, although she especially enjoys portraits.

About The Sponsor: Allan Rowe is a retired executive of the General Electric Company, where he was employed for 36 years in finance, strategic planning and compensation and benefits. Since relocating to Fairhope 3 years ago, he has actively supported the Council on Public Art and Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope. He also serves on the Mobile Symphony's Board of Directors. Allan is a former member of the Jobs for America's Graduates National Board of Directors and still provides assistance to this 30 year old school-to-work program.
