About the Pelican: Pelican Bill with a Grill was designed for the sponsor, Dr. Glenn Glass, an orthodontist in Daphne. Bill is painted as a brown coastal pelican, with white, blue, brown, grey and yellow, as one would see at the Gulf, with a beautiful smile with braces.
About The Artist: Kathleen Hogg Taupeka is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. She earned her degree in Advertising and Fine Arts from the University of Alabama. For 10 years, Kathleen and her husband Mark lived in Atlanta, where she continued to paint and show her art. In August of 2005, they and their two sons moved to the Eastern Shore, living in Montrose and enjoying the coastal life. Kathleen works primarily in acrylics but enjoys an occasional piece in oil. Her ideas for her paintings are inspired from an initial image and then take on a life all their own, using color, line and form. Scumbling is one of Kathleen's favorite techniques, in which the paint is scrubbed into the canvas and on top of underlying dried paint, creating a rich layered and broken color effect. Kathleen continues to paint and has had a few pieces displayed in Fairhope. She is currently on the COPA Committee of the Eastern Shore Art Center and attends art classes there.
About The Sponsor: Dr. Glenn Glass is a local specialist in adolescent and adult orthodontics. His practice, Eastern Shore Orthodontic Specialists, is located on Main Street in the heart of Olde Towne Daphne.
