About The Artist: Like her Pelican, Opal Smith is also a Katrina refugee. Opal moved to the beautiful Steelwood community in Loxley, Alabama, where she and her family have felt the embrace of a circle of new friends. Surrounded by large whispering pines and wildlife that runs freely, Opal sees new beauty in her life and feels her star has truly been planted in Alabama.
