7: JUS' PLAYIN' PELI-CAN
Sponsors: John & Sivewright Carden
Sponsors: Ashley Gallagher & Fred Michaels
Artist: Nancy Raia

About the Pelican: Jus' Playin' is all about fun - give them the materials and children will respond with images of all they cherish - a day collecting shells with a family, fishing on Dad's boat, pretending to be mermaids or safeguarding the baby sea turtles heading into the water. They may be Jus' playin' but they're developing creative thinking, expressing their images, developing spatial skills and reminding us ---- to remember to play!

About The Artist: Nancy Raia is an artist, motivator, speaker, teacher and writer. Her favorite topics are creativity, communication, and positively inspiring others. She paints and creates from within, loves color and expression, loud laughter and joy. Her students participate, with her guidance, in the Marine Resources Division calendar which reminds us to honor the bay and keep it healthy for all to enjoy. The marine biologists who are part of the judging panel are thrilled when they find young students who know the marine life and value the life giving qualities a sound ecosystem provides. Nancy finds that art strengthens the curriculum and encourages deeper thought into the subject of study, finding that when an art element is added as part of a project the results are knowledge learned and better grades! And all when they were having fun and Jus' Playing.

About The Sponsors: John Carden is one of the founding members of Fairhope's Eastern Shore Art Association's Committee on Public Art (COPA) and one of its generous benefactors. John and Sivewright Carden were among sponsors contributing to the Dolphin Family bronze statue that adorns Fairhope's waterfront on Mobile Street at the Orange Street pier. John currently serves as the current treasurer of COPA. John said he and Sive are happy to participate in the pelican project, Art Takes Flight.
